AfBC North England - African Business Network (NEfBN) and The Forum is a business-led initiative aimed at empowering African diaspora businesses and engagement; increasing regional economic ties, commercial connectivity, trade relations, investment, innovation and strengthening cultural with Africa.
The Northern Powerhouse (NP), encompassing cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, and Hull, is a major driver of economic growth, innovation, and global connectivity. Building on its industrial heritage, advanced manufacturing, digital expertise, and world-class universities, the NP aims to strengthen trade and investment ties with Africa—a rapidly expanding market rich in resources and a growing middle class. By leveraging its strengths, the NP can enhance the UK’s economic engagement, generate jobs, foster sustainable growth, and establish Northern England as a global economic hub while supporting Africa’s development.
The African Business Chamber (AfBC) provides a wide range of services for members, businesses, professionals, and investors. These include identifying profitable projects and investment opportunities, raising business profiles, promoting products and services, networking, building partnerships, and enhancing knowledge and skills.
AfBC’s strategic objectives focus on boosting trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Northern England and African markets. It supports Northern businesses in exporting goods and services—including advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, financial services, and infrastructure solutions—while facilitating bilateral trade agreements that reduce tariffs and improve market access. AfBC also encourages African investment in Northern England, particularly in innovation, logistics, and renewable energy. Sustainability is central, with initiatives promoting green investment, renewable energy projects, ethical business practices, and responsible supply chains in all Northern-African partnerships.
The AfBC Northern Powerhouse drives engagement through strategic initiatives such as targeted trade missions to Africa’s fastest-growing markets, including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Ethiopia, opening new opportunities for Northern enterprises. It also hosts African Investment Summits and forums in Northern England, positioning the region as a hub for investment and fostering high-value connections between local businesses and African investors. In addition, AfBC supports bilateral partnerships, facilitating collaboration agreements between regional authorities and African governments or economic zones to promote sustainable growth and long-term cooperation.
