AfBC UK South Region African Business Network and The Forum is a business-led initiative aimed at empowering African diaspora businesses and engagement; increasing regional economic ties, commercial connectivity, trade relations, investment, innovation, knowledge transfer and strengthening cultural with Africa.
The UK's South region—home to cities such as London, Oxford, Cambridge, Reading, Southampton, and Bristol—plays a central role in driving the nation’s economic engagement with Africa. Its major economic hubs underpin these trade connections: London acts as a financial and diplomatic center, Southampton facilitates significant maritime trade, and Bristol and Oxford contribute expertise in technology and innovation, sectors increasingly important for Africa’s development.
By 2025, the UK-Africa relationship is evolving from traditional aid models toward dynamic, investment-led partnerships. Key sectors shaping this transition include green energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and digital services. This report examines the current state and future potential of economic relations between the UK South region and Africa.
The UK’s emerging trade strategy with Africa emphasizes a flexible, targeted approach, focusing on clean energy, technology, and infrastructure. This aligns with broader goals of sustainable development and shared economic growth, with the UK actively supporting infrastructure and energy initiatives across the continent.
The South region remains a critical driver of economic ties with Africa. Through strategic partnerships, focused investments, and supportive policies, both regions can foster mutual prosperity and sustainable development. Continued collaboration and adaptation to emerging trends will be essential to navigate the shifting economic landscape.
